Wow—so much to update on that I’ll need to spread this over the next week or two. To kick things off, spring break was absolutely amazing. Two weeks off was exactly what I needed. Here’s the executive summary:
The Road Trip: I drove 12 hours each way to see my man for the very first time.
Lazy Days & Family Time: I spent mornings lounging, afternoons at the beach with my family, and evenings brainstorming app and website ideas.
Self‑Care & Relaxation: I read a book, soaked up a little sun, and simply recharged.
Back to School: With only six weeks left before summer, I’m feeling energized and ready to finish out the year strong.
I broke up the drive by spending the first night with a friend I hadn’t seen in months. It was a quick catch‑up—he works late, and I needed an early start for the remaining nine hours of my trip. During those long stretches alone on the highway, my mind raced: I’m actually driving across the state to meet someone I met online. It’s exactly the kind of risk our parents warned us against, yet it felt right. I’d done my due diligence—he’s still in college, and we’d verified details beforehand—so I pressed on, excitement and nerves in equal measure.
When I pulled up to the hotel, my heart skipped a beat. The neighborhood was a little sketchy, and entry required ringing a buzzer or swiping a room key—definitely not five‑star. Inside, though, the room was modern, stylishly decorated, and surprisingly comfortable (if a bit overdue for a deep cleaning). After settling in with a much‑needed shower, I waited for him to arrive.
It was the day after my birthday when he showed up—without missing a beat, he surprised me with a small birthday cake. In that moment, with candlelight flickering and laughter filling the room, I probably fell for him right then and there.
The rest of the weekend was everything I’d hoped for:
Hanging Out & Cuddling: Long, easy conversations about life, dreams, and everything in between.
Brunch & New Friends: We went to brunch where I met his friend and her partner—everyone was warm and welcoming.
Extended Stay: We even added an extra night so we could squeeze in more time together.
Three Little Words: One evening, he looked at me and said, “I love you.” I laughed and cheered, “You said it first!”—though truthfully, I’d been feeling it too.
We’re already joking about marriage (honeymoon‑phase bliss!), and it’s been such a breath of fresh air in my life. We both feel it: when you know, you know.
He’s decided that once things settle, he’s moving here—and now the big question is housing. My goal is to purchase or build an affordable home that I can manage on my teacher’s salary, so he can focus entirely on medical school without worrying about rent. This means diving back into house plans, budgeting, and lean‑on‑Dad’s general‑contractor wisdom. It’s a big project, but one I’m eager to take on.
I’ll keep you posted as this story unfolds—both on the housing front and on our long‑distance romance blossoming into “real life.” For now, I’m riding this wave of excitement and gratitude, ready to tackle the next six weeks of school with renewed energy… and maybe a few extra smiles.
Have a great week, y’all!
